Barwon and Macintyre Rivers
Personal blog and guide to paddling the Barwon and Macintyre Rivers
I'm expecting the Macintyre River to have variable characteristics but the lower Macintyre and Barwon rivers are characteristic of the larger Murray-Darling Basin rivers.
Upper Macintyre:
Small creek with riffles and some rapids likely. There are a number of dams and weirs.
Middle Macintyre:
The river travels through the rugged Kwiambal National Park, a steep bouldery waterway that contains the Macintyre Falls.
Pools and riffles likely between the Severn and Dumaresq rivers.
Lower Macintyre and Barwon:
Large slow flowing river with high banks and some significant weir pools.
Above Walgett there could be rapids and a reported waterfall, and the river has tight bends often with closed in caponies. The river opens up more below Walgett with less slope, especially below Brewarrina.
