The Balonne (Minor) River and another creek forms at the Bokhara River that flows south to the Barwon. The Birrie River is a major distributary and Cato Creek joins it just before the confluence with the Barwon.

Macquarie River is the ninth or tenth longest river in the country at about 882 km. High flows often get absorbed by the Macquarie Marshes just before the river meets the Barwon.
